- Peter Gray is Professor of Biotechnology at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Previously, he was Director of the Bioengineering Centre at UNSW and Senior Principal Research Fellow at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. He has held academic positions at University College in London and at the University of California in Berkeley, and has also had commercial experience in the USA working for Eli Lilly and Co and the Cetus Corporation. Peter’s main research interests are in the production of biopharmaceuticals by mammalian cell cultures. He is active on a number of government committees in the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and education. In 2003, Peter was appointed as the inaugural Director of the Australian Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology. With his colleagues, he is building a major research institute that is active at the interface between the biological, chemical and physical sciences.
