Graham Mitchell is a veterinary graduate and university gold medallist of the University of Sydney. He obtained his PhD at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) in 1969, and undertook post-doctoral work in California, England and Switzerland. Upon his return to Australia in 1973, Graham established a new program on the immunology of parasitism at WEHI. Graham was appointed Director of the Royal Melbourne Zoological Gardens in 1990, a position he held until his return to biomedical research in 1993, as Director of Research in the R&D Division of CSL Limited. In 1993, he was appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia for services to science. Graham is currently an advisor on innovation to the Victorian Government and, along with other Principals of Foursight, acts as Chief Scientist for the Departments of Primary Industries and Sustainability and Environment. He is a non-executive director of a number of companies and institutes, and has been involved with the World Health Organization for many years.
