Norman Swan is an award winning broadcaster and journalist. He graduated in medicine from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and later obtained postgraduate qualifications in paediatrics. He joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in 1982, becoming one of the first medically qualified journalists in Australia. In addition to his role hosting the Health Report, Norman appears on local ABC Radio and ABC NewsRadio. On television, his roles have included hosting ABC television's science program Quantum, and guest reporting on Catalyst and Four Corners. Internationally, Norman has consulted for the World Health Organization on global priorities in health research and has been the Australian correspondent for the Journal of the American Medical Association and the British Medical Journal. He has received a number of awards throughout his career, including Australian Radio Producer of the Year in 1984, a Gold Citation in the United Nations Media Peace Prizes, and has twice received Australia's top prize for science journalism, the Michael Daly Award.
